Trust in AI and Automation: Towards Synergetic Collaboration with Machines
Abstract
The rapid development of technology has led to new forms of collaboration involving automation, such as artificial intelligence and robots. This necessitates a novel research paradigm to study communication and interaction in the context of collective action and digital technology. Particularly, as our society enters the era of the 4th industrial revolution—with the fusion of physical and digital worlds—new services and jobs are continually being created. An intriguing question arises: How willing are people to trust automation for collaboration or its services? Such questions underscore how our daily interactions hinge on trust. To address these inquiries, it is essential to revisit a fundamental question: What is trust? In this presentation, I will introduce the concept of trust and discuss how to apply its key elements to the emerging trend of collaborating with automation in daily activities during the era of the 4th industrial revolution.
